What happens after you fill our form?

So you signed up for GeoLatinas and now… what?! 

Once you register you will get an email with an invitation link to our private Slack workspace.

Introduce yourself in our #introductions channel and start interacting with our community. Our communications happen mainly through Slack, where we have many channels to talk about our community, organize initiatives, share achievements and worries, recipes, well-being ideas, scholarships and job opportunities, and much more!

Just follow the instructions in the welcome email you will receive after filling out our membership form, and make GeoLatinas whatever you need it to be for you!

Some of our initiatives for GeoLatinas members only

For 5 years Conversando con GeoLatinas has been providing a space for our members to improve their conversational Spanish & English Skills. This is an initiative of the Professional and Personal Development Committee for Spanish & English speakers at all levels.
New registrations happen monthly, to form small groups that gather at least for 1 hr/week. To participate join the slack channel #conversando-con-geolatinas_participants.

Impetu is our virtual writing accountability space. A flexible and inclusive space, that provides additional support during our working time, while fostering community and encouraging  constructive feedback and mentoring. You can log into this space at any time, and fill our sheet to work with a goal in mind keeping accountability to track progress. Find more in our #impetu_work-together channel.

Geotraductores is a joint initiative of GeoLatinas, Planeteando, and Eos, to translate, edit and publish a wide range of science news articles to Spanish and published by Eos en Español. Our members benefit by strengthening their science communication and reading/writing skills. This initiative has been democratizing science communication for Latin America since 2020 “one translation at a time”.

Only Members can participate as translators.

PERLA is our “Professional Exchange for Resilience Leadership and Advancement” intiative. Here GeoLatinas professional power-houses present discussions on work-life balance, career skills and professional advice. Members have the opportunity to interact with professional from different fields and at different career stages, acquiring new tools to advance in their careers.

In May 2020, we launched our Dry Runs and Peer Review initiative, facilitating our members a friendly and safe place to receive feedback on their presentations, writing pieces, curriculums, and more. It is a learning experience for everyone involved allowing them to strengthen their communication skills.

We are so proud of our GeoLatinas coding group! This space allows our members to connect virtually and learn about code. The organizers designed basic Python lessons and have a channel where you can leave any coding-related questions you may have! This has been a great learning opportunity for everyone involved and motivates our members to take their first steps in programming!
